What are verrucae

Verruca is a type of wart occurring on the feet. It is extremely painful, stubborn and discomforting. It is caused by a virus called the human papilomavrius(HPV). Flat and thick in appearance, they are hard around edges and have a small black dot in the center. They feel extremely painful when touched upon.

Verrucae are highly contagious and can be easily spread through contact of infected skin to non-infected skin. HPV can  stay dormant for weeks and it may take weeks or months for a verruca to appear on your skin.

Patients with Verrucae are advised to keep the infected area covered at all time so as contain the virus from spreading.

Treatments for verrucae.

Every patient is unique and hence it is highly recommended for you to come to our clinic for a consultation. We practice latest of methods to treat Verrucae. These include.

  • Laser removal
A highly targeted beam of laser light is aimed at the verruca. The energy from the laser heats up the blood vessels feeding the verruca, which collapse in on themselves as a result and stop the blood supply to the verruca. This starves the verruca of nutrients so it naturally falls off after a few weeks.
  • Excision removal
The skin tag is carefully cut off from the skin using a scalpel under the influence of local anaesthisia. It may leave a light scar.
  • Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is the process of freezing the desired area of skin with help of nitrogen. The cold temperature kills the cells within the skin tag, blocking the blood supply to the area, causing it to naturally fall off.

These treatments do not take much time and are done under the influence of an anaesthetic hence making the process relatively painless.
